Interview With A Poll Worker

LB: How do you feel the voter turnout has been this year, specifically in this precinct?

KF: Pretty good. We've had around 50% turnout already today [11:15 AM], and the state is expecting 60%. We usually outperform it though, so I'm expecting around 70-75%.

LB: Do you have more Democrats or Republicans registered here?

KF: For us, it's hard to tell because it's not written on voter ballots and we don't separate by parties anymore. However, I'd say that we probably have more Republicans registered here though we're on the edge.

LB: Why do you think it's important to vote?

KF: Too many countries aren't given this privilege. I personally have voted in every election since I turned 18, we need to use this privilege we are provided with.

Interview With A Voter

LB: Why do you think it's important to vote?

AKC/DC: We are a democracy and we have to have pride in it. We as a country need to elect who will be best for our government.

LB: What do you think is the most important issue facing our country today?

DC: A lack of civility.

AKC: Diversity issues.

LB: Do you believe the candidate you've chosen will solve this issue?

AKC/DC: Yes, definitely.

Breakdown

Based on these two interviews above, I learned some things about how voters and poll workers feel about the election process. For example, the poll worker I spoke with really believed in voting and that everyone should do it. She reminded me that not everyone has the same privilege we do, voting is not a guaranteed right. Americans are lucky that we get this power and at least get a say in choosing our future leaders.

One thing that really stood out to me in the interviews with voters was their sheer confidence in their candidate of choice. When asked if they thought the candidate they chose would face the issue they thought most prominent in America today, they said yes. Just yes. It really showed me how to be confident in our democratic system and gave me an example of patriotism that I believe we should all strive to.

In closing, voting is something that America should be proud of. Democrat, Republican, or Independent, we need to take pride in our country. Voting is a way to show our independent states and individuals' opinions while electing our next leaders together.
