If you're planning a vacation, here's a suggestion...

Ever wanted to get away from all the clutter and chaos of the everyday world? Travel to St. Simons, a town with it all- the Village, a quaint town within a town with lots of great shopping opportunities for even the most reluctant shopper (St. Simons Sweets, anyone?), a great beach, and many parks and tourist attractions all kids will enjoy. This prime vacation spot has been featured on many home and living TV shows, and the many family-friendly beach houses are very comfortable and fully equipped for anything your family may require. Let's go into the basics:

Location

St. Simons Island is located in Georgia, and is about an eleven hour drive. That may sound daunting, but many people make it a two-day trip, spending the night in Atlanta. St. Simons Island is one of the Golden Isles in Georgia, including Sea Island, Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, and St. Simons Island. You can easily make a day trip over to any one of those, the closest being Sea and Jekyll Islands. If your trip is in the summer, St. Simons is right on the southeast Georgia coast, and has a fantastic beach with many places to relax..

Attractions

For a family, at least my family, St. Simons is "the playground of our dreams". The neighborhoods are relatively small, so there is lots of room to run and play. Most beach houses, at least the ones rented out to vacationers, are within a quick walk of the Village.

This means there is almost always ice cream on short notice. If you're looking for a good destination spot for kids, I suggest the previously mentioned St. Simons Sweets. With the motto 'chocolate dipped everything', be prepared to spend lots of time in here. There are five pound gummy bears, thick chocolate milkshakes, and my personal favorite, a six foot long Party Python, a huge gummy snake. Another fun area is The Pier. This is a great place to really experience the ocean. The spray hits your face, that salty smell hits your nose, and you know you're in for a treat. Also, The Pier is conveniently located right by a climbing tree and playground, which is fun for children of all ages.

Outdoor Fun

Aside for beaching, there are many other ways to occupy your time outside. There's fishing, canoeing, bike rentals on the beach and several expansive golf courses. For the adventurous vacationer, kayaking is a must. Be warned, your arms will be sore for many hours afterward, so I wouldn't schedule kayaking for early in the morning. There are also hirable sailboats and the Summer Waves Water Park, located on Jekyll Island. A walk through the park at the end of the night is one of my favorite ways to end the day, and you can still smell the salty smell from hours before.

All in all, St. Simons Island is a fantastic destination that has everything. It is a great place to plan your next vacation to. Hope to see you there!
