Should Parents Refuse HPV Vaccine?

HPV is wreaking havoc in America's colleges and high schools.

Should parents be apprehensive for their children to get the HPV Vaccine? Some parents would say that their children aren’t or should not be sexually active, so they think that there is no reason for this extra vaccine. Others want to be safe and do think their children should get the HPV vaccine, for there could be consequences such as cancer later in life. There are many reasons for both sides of the argument, but personally I think it is better to be safe than sorry.

Many parents that have older children such as 16-18 believe that with this vaccine their children are more likely to have sexual relations while feeling protected by the vaccine. But parents that don’t get their children this vaccine are more likely to have their children at risk. There are often no symptoms for this virus and the negative impact of exposure does not come in effect until they are adults. But once the virus has affected someone, it affects them drastically. Many people get cancer from not getting this vaccine early.

Not all parents know that this virus is not only spread through sex. Many other things can cause this virus to spread. Which is yet another reason to get the vaccine. 70% of cervical cancer is from the two HPV strains. There have been 57 million doses of the HPV vaccine between June 2006 through March 2013. All throughout this the vaccine has not only been well tested, but extremely safe. Overall my opinion is that the HPV vaccine can not only save people from a deadly virus but can keep them healthy through out their adulthood.
