Police arrest a lurking clown in Kentucky woods near an apartment block. “Creepy clowns” fears spread. Clown reports in at least six US states.
Recent reports of clowns trying to lure children into the woods have sparked alarm. Jonathan Martin, age 20, was charged with covering his face in public or wearing a mask and demonstrating unruly behavior. He was found on Friday in a full-on clown costume, crouching behind trees behind by an apartment complex, according to the police. The police have warned people against dressing up in clown costumes, saying it could eventually lead to worse criminal charges.
“Dressing as a clown and driving, walking or standing in public can create a dangerous situation for you and others," police in nearby Barbourville, Kentucky, said in a statement online.
"While dressing up is not, in and of itself against the law, doing so in public and thereby creating an unnecessary sense of alarm is illegal."
However, the recent wave of clown reports have led to many false reports to police and on social media. Police in Maryland have found many reports of students being scared by clowns walking to and from school, to be untrue. Likewise, a 24 year old man was charged of making false reports of a clown knocking down his window.
