Reflections 2016/17: What is Your Story?

As the new school year comes around, so does another PTSA sponsored Reflections Contest. This is a contest where you can express yourself with the help of the theme (this year, 'What is Your Story?') in many different categories, including dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

This is a national competition, as well as a local, regional, and state competition. The entry process is simple- create your piece and follow your school-specific rules and deadlines for entry. For Noe, pieces are due by October 14th. This may seem kind of broad, but let's bring this down to scale. Last year from Noe, there were seven winners in the local competition. Seven! That's a lot for only six competitions! So, if you want to enter, you should, even if you don't think you can win.

As I said above, the theme this year is 'What is Your Story?'. To illustrate that point, it means to design your piece around yourself. It may sound kind of self-centered, but it's proven to be easier creating something about yourself than something else that you may not, let's be honest, care about quite as much. For this year's PTSA Reflections, you are supposed to put a little bit of yourself into your piece. An experience you've had, feelings, thoughts. Anything that's important to you.

To close, the PTSA Reflections contest is a great opportunity for people of all ages. It is full of creativity, inspiration, and this year, even yourself.

(A visual arts award-winning piece by Mackenzie Smith, a duPont Manual student.)
