Noe Drama in Seventh Grade

In drama, the seventh graders have been working on “Fractured Fairytales”. These are modern and basically messed up fairytale interpretations. This year we are doing “Happily Ever After”, which is a fairytale game show, hosted by the Wicked Witch. Four couples, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Rapunzel and Prince Malodorous, Sleeping Beauty and Prince Antsy Pants, and Snow White and Prince Agitated are competing for the opportunity to live happily ever after. They go through a series of games, and the couple who wins most, or gets the most marks wins. The challenge in the game show is that the couples aren’t very happy with each other, which makes it hard for them to work together.

Drama students have been working very hard, and have memorized all their lines. As though learning their parts wasn’t enough, students decided to pull the unschooled seventh grade teachers into it. Teachers participated in their own performance of “Happily Ever After”, exclusively for the seventh grade drama students. Mrs. JJ “flipped the classroom”, and the kids taught the teachers everything they need to know.

As a drama student, I feel like we have been having a lot of fun, and the plays should turn out really well. The class I am in (Voyagers/ Innovators) will be presenting to four different teams, each with a different cast. A struggle for my class is that we have limited space to practice. We have a stage, a built-in stage, space in the Multi-Purpose room, and the classroom. Also, as a last resort, the back stairwell in the drama room. The best place to practice, is the stages because they provide space to practice blocking.

Since the performances are coming up soon, we have started adding tech assets, and props to our practice performances. We are also discussing our costumes and makeup. They are really adding a nice touch to our work. I can tell we have improved a lot from last year, and I am very excited to perform!
