Noe Students cannot contain how much fun they had with kids from Gilmore Lane.
September 29th was an important day for the students of Gilmore Lane Elementary School. Three eighth grade students, Annie Whaley, Sam Baker, and Sydney Stevens, spent a portion of the day with the third, fourth, and fifth graders speaking with them about what middle school is like and what to expect from the experience.
When we arrived at the school we were greeted by the lovely Office Clerks and the principal. She brought us to our first classroom, the third and fourth graders. We spoke to them about why it is so important to do well on your KPrep testing, because that is what middle schools are looking for. We also informed them to make sure to be in as many extracurricular activities as they can, so they can develop and better their academic skills, physique, and character.
We then described to the fifth grade groups about what to expect from middle school. We revealed to them our tips on testing, what a normal day looks like at Noe and what extracurricular activities we offer. Mr. Weber would introduce a topic like, “ What’s our related arts period like here at Noe?” and Sam, Sydney, and myself would answer differently and inform the students on the topic. After we were done educating the kids, we would take questions. Some examples of the questions the kids asked where,“ What sports do you have at Noe?”, or “ Do you have a uniform?”, or my favorites “Do you guys have school dances?” and “ What time do you have to wake up?” After the questions we said goodbye to the classrooms and to the staff of Gilmore Lane. As we left we were given charming bags of candy as a thank you gift from the secretary's in the Main Office. Making our way to the Jefferson Mall to eat some lunch, there were smiles plastered on our faces, given to us by the wonderful student body, teachers, and staff at Gilmore Lane Elementary.
